Course description
This five evening mini-intensive is highly energetic and creative, suitable for participants with an interest in extending their knowledge and practice of devising and physicality techniques.
Devised theatre now sits at the heart of modern theatre practice. Here the ensemble member as a collaborative maker is central. In this intensive we will explore the tools of eliciting, image-making, emergence, story structure and theme, to develop skills in the creation of original and authentic theatre.
Join Ashley, the Creative Director of PUSH Physical Theatre and explore where his devising process is now, how it has shifted and where it is evolving to. Then steal everything for yourself!
This course is aimed at either those with professional experience in some area of performance and/or those that that have taken part in Ashley’s prior workshops. (you don’t need to be an actor, but be prepared to be on your feet)
Participants of this course will be lead through the various methods and models of devised theatre that has formed and informs contemporary devised theatre. Inspired by the works of Frantic Assembly, Chris Johnston, Gecko, David Glass Ensemble, Ashley’s method is prompt based, rooted in priming, creative provocation, building blocks and layering. And has formed the foundation of his award-winning works including Generic Male: Just What We Need Another Show About Men, HYDE and HOME[sic].
Ingrained in the pedagogies of Jacques Lecoq, Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook, you will explore principles of spatial dynamics, improvisation, observation and play and delve into the vast territory of your own creativity.
